Questions & answers

The things people ask most before they donate, join, or work with us. Still stuck? Get in touch.

  • Is my donation tax-deductible?

Yes. Project Silicon is fiscally sponsored by Hack Club (The Hack Foundation), a registered 501(c)(3) nonprofit, so donations made through our HCB page are tax-deductible in the U.S. to the extent allowed by law. HCB provides a receipt for your records.

  • Do I need experience to join?

No. Our robotics program is built for students who've never touched a robot before. You'll wire, build, and drive a VEX V5 machine with help from students on our competitive teams. Curiosity is the only requirement.

  • How is my money used?

Every dollar funds the work students actually do: the competitive teams, the robotics program, student-run hackathons, and the free CS and academic resources we distribute. Because we run on HCB, our finances are transparent and auditable.

  • Where are you based?

We're based in Chester County, Pennsylvania, and serve students across Greater Philadelphia. Beyond that, our resources reach students in 21+ countries and counting.

  • How do I get involved?

Team openings, camp sessions, and hackathons are announced first on our Instagram, @projectsilicon_. Start on the Programs page to see everything we run, then follow along for dates.

  • Can you bring a program to my school or event?

Often, yes. We've run camps and hosted hackathons across the region. Email the team and tell us what you have in mind, and we'll figure out whether it's a fit.
